Land Acknowledgment

This is Treaty 6 territory, land of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpē, Nakota and Dakota peoples and homeland of the Métis. Treaties were meant to serve as a framework for living together and sharing this land, but colonial policies and systems favoured settlers to the detriment of Indigenous people. These systems persist. As a descendant of settlers and a beneficiary of colonial systems, I am responsible for calling out and working against these disparities. I recognize the racism within me, and continue to re-educate myself. I'm grateful for the patience, learnings, and wisdom I've received from Indigenous friends, colleagues, and community leaders.
